Odd colored hummingbird

I took these pictures of this odd colored hummingbird in my backyard this afternoon.  I'm mostly sure it's "just" a Ruby-throated hummingbird (the species we normally get up here and the only one I've seen in my yard) but the golden sheen to the back caught my attention.

  1. Hi Diana, great photos. Your Ruby-throated Hummingbird looks like a young bird just out of the nest. These young Hummers have buffy tips to their back and head feathers giving them the sheen you wrote about. I posted photos of several young Hummers taken in Essex recently showing just this.
